In Kenya, dairy farmers struggle to find big milk suppliers in time which leads to a lot of waste production of milk. Most dairy farmers also face challenges regarding easy access to farm inputs, knowledge of the current market prices and veterinary services for their livestock. Dairy Smart is an application that seeks to help farmers overcome these challenges through a suite of tools and services.
It is an innovative application designed to help Kenyan dairy farmers streamline their operations and increase their profits. The app will offer a range of features that make it easy for farmers to manage their livestock, track their milk production, connect with buyers, connect with veterinary service providers, receive payments, and purchase farm inputs. With Dairy Smart, farmers can achieve greater efficiency, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to the growth of the Kenyan dairy industry.
DATA
PLATFORM
Farmers will record their farm inputs each day. This information will be stored and interpreted for the farmers by the application. The application will generate weekly and monthly reports that will help farmers assess how their farming production is doing.
SALES PLATFORM
The platform will provide farmers with real market data on prices offered by milk buyers/ suppliers in the region the farmer lives in. Additionally, the farmer can add their production costs, and the app will create a profit report based on the input figures. This will help farmers make informed decisions about whom to sell their milk to and when to sell their milk.
FINANCE
PLATFORM
The finance platform will involve the farmers having an account with a financial institution linked to the Dairy Smart application. Dairy Smart will use information from the farmer’s previous milk production records and payments to provide small-term loans to support farmers in their production.
PURCHASE PLATFORM
The platform will provide a space for farmers to buy key farm inputs like animal feeds and simple equipment that can be shipped to the farmers. In addition, the application will offer an online shop that farmers can use to purchase household goods with the income they get from milk farming. The household goods will also be shipped to the farmers.
LEARNING AND NEWS PLATFORM
The platform will provide dairy farmers with training and resources to improve their operations. The application will offer a variety of courses and information on topics such as dairy management, animal health, milk quality, and marketing. Additionally, farmers can receive market news relevant to milk farming through which they can learn about market trends and apply them to their farming.
